The Indian government has made the visa application process more accessible to foreign visitors to India. In 2014, they introduced the online Indian eVisa, which is available to citizens from over 171 countries, including Vietnam. This move has helped to simplify the process and make it more efficient.

The eVisa for India has four main categories, which are:

  • Tourist eVisa: This category is for those who want to visit India for tourism purposes or to visit friends and family.
  • Business eVisa: This category is for those who want to visit India for business purposes.
  • Medical eVisa: This category is for those who want to visit India for short-term medical treatment.
  • Medical Attendant eVisa: This category is for those who accompany someone who is traveling to India for medical treatment.
  • Conference eVisa: Added recently in 2024 enables Vietnamese to attend conference organised by private sector as well as Government.

You require India e-Tourist Visa (eVisa India or Indian Visa Online to witness the amazing places and experiences as a foreign tourist in India. Eligibility of Vietnamese Citizens to Travel to India with an eVisa

Vietnamese citizens who wish to travel to India can do so with ease by applying for an eVisa online. This means that there is no need for them to visit or book an appointment with a local Vietnamese embassy or consulate, saving both time and money.

Requirements for Vietnamese Nationals to Apply for an Indian eVisa

Vietnamese nationals who are interested in traveling to India with an eVisa must meet certain requirements. These requirements include the following documents:

  • A completed Indian eVisa application form
  • A Vietnamese passport that has a validity of at least 6 months at the time of applying for the eVisa
  • A document-style photo that has a white background. The photo must be uploaded in the JPEG format and must be between 350x350 pixels and 1000x1000 pixels in size.
  • A valid email address that will be used to receive the eVisa.
  • An acceptable credit or debit card to pay for the eVisa processing fee.

It's important to ensure that all the information provided during the eVisa application process is accurate and up to date. Any errors or discrepancies may result in the rejection of the eVisa application. Additionally, travelers should apply for the eVisa well in advance of their planned trip to India to allow sufficient time for processing.

Types of eVisa for Vietnam Citizens Traveling to India

Vietnamese citizens who wish to travel to India can apply for four types of electronic visas: tourist visa, business visa, medical visa, and medical attendant visa.

Tourist eVisa for Vietnamese Travelers to India

Vietnamese nationals may request an eVisa for tourism to enter India for up to 90 days. This is a double-entry eVisa for 30 days or multiple-entry visa for one or five years that may be used for travelling, seeing loved ones, or taking yoga classes. Note that Vietnamese passport holders must travel to India within a year of their visa application being approved.

Indian Business eVisa for Vietnamese Travelers

Vietnamese nationals can visit India for business with the use of an eVisa. This kind of eVisa allows for two entries into India, with a total stay cap of 180 days that is determined by the date of the visa holder's initial admission. Sales, purchases, trade, technical and/or business meetings, the establishment of industrial and business ventures, the supervision of business tours, the delivery of lectures Recruiting and engaging participants in the Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN)

 in or participating in exhibitions or business/trade fairs, or the provision of expertise or a specialised skill in connection with an ongoing project are all business activities that are permitted under this visa.

India Medical eVisa for Vietnamese Nationals

Vietnamese nationals can apply for a Medical eVisa if they need short-term medical care in India. With a maximum stay of 60 days starting from the initial day of arrival, this kind of eVisa allows for three entries into India. It is crucial to submit a photo or scanned copy of the letter, on the hospital's letterhead and mentioning the patient's estimated start date of treatment, when applying for an India Medical eVisa.

Medical Attendant eVisa for Vietnamese Applicants

Vietnamese nationals also have the option to apply for a Medical Attendant eVisa to accompany a patient receiving treatment in India under the Medical eVisa. The conditions for this visa are the same as for the Medical eVisa,allowing three entries into India with a 60-day stay maximum.

It's important to note that only two Medical Attendant eVisas can be granted for each Medical eVisa.

Step-by-Step Guide for Vietnamese Citizens Applying for an Indian eVisa

Vietnamese citizens can easily apply for an Indian eVisa by following these simple steps:

  • Visit the Online Indian eVisa website and select the type of visa you require.
  • Complete the online application form with all the necessary information.
  • Upload a scanned copy of your passport data page and a digital photo with a white background.
  • Use a valid credit or debit card to pay the visa fee.
  • Receive the eVisa confirmation by email within 2-4 business days.

It's important to note that the processing time may take longer if more information is needed or if there or if there is a high volume of applications.

Additionally, Vietnamese travelers with a criminal record may face travel restrictions to India. It's recommended that they check with the Indian embassy or consulate in Vietnam before applying for an eVisa.

Entering India from Vietnam: Authorized Ports of Entry for eVisa Holders

Vietnamese citizens who have been granted an Indian eVisa are allowed to enter India through 31 airports and 5 seaports as of 2024. However, it is important to note that entry via land ports is not permitted for eVisa holders.

Upon arrival in India, travelers from Vietnam must present a printed copy of their approved eVisa to the border control officers. It is also recommended to carry a copy of the eVisa while traveling within India as proof of their legal status in the country. Additionally, eVisa holders are free to exit by passing via any authorised Immigration Checkpoints 

(ICPs).

Tips for Vietnamese to avoid Indian eVisa rejection - 2024 update

  • Do not hide your criminal background and disclose in the application form
  • Ensure that the name entered in Visa Application for India is exactly as per the passport page, else there will be issues at the border crossing / airport / seaport
  • Apply correct Visa Type for India, if travelling for Business, then do NOT apply Tourist Visa
  • Apply for Ordinary Passport and NOT Diplomatic, Service, or Special passport
  • Do NOT send or upload blurry face or passport page photograph
  • Ensure that the reference in India or home country has correct address, name and phone because Immigration Officers in India may contact them 
  • If coming for Medical Treatment then keep the hospital letter ready
  • If coming for a Business Trip then keep the Business Invitation Letter handy from the Indian company
